General Testing:
I am interested in testing all types of 6Hz. Care to have a blogpost on your AP? Let’s chat. I have some comparison data on Mist performance out of this document scope, please contact me directly.
Purpose:
Other than to shop talk about all things wireless, we got together to test a Mist AP45 with Wi-Fi 6E to with AirCheck G3 PRO with AirMapper Site Survey tool G3 with Ekahau Sidekick 2.
Ekahau delivered, but we were happy with the results from NetAlly, as well, noting all the helpful filtering features available for quick troubleshooting needs.
Product note on NetAlly: The AirCheck G3/EXG can perform both Active and Passive tests, which allows you to not only validate beacon frame coverage, but also the effects of beamforming and MIMO while measuring signal strength. Meanwhile, the Sidekick 2 does not allow you to connect to a specific BSSID/AP since it does not support active connections (requires the use of the phone or tablet radio).
Personally, I like you can use the AirCheck G3 PRO to connect to a site and get actual stats as a client asset experience. The ability to show grayscale at -67 is great too (one example below). I have not fully tapped into everything the AirCheck (statistics, looking into rogues and scanned trouble traffic) can do- but this was a very nice first tour.
Floorplan:
I like heatmapping different APs because, “Yes.” Different model, different radio footprint. This floorplan offers a strait shot of how far a signal can travel down an open space, and how it’s effected by drywall office and meeting areas for placing APs in the field. Yes- run a predictive, but it’s nice to have an idea of heat mapped APs, too. This article also correlates with other articles of AP models, as well (please see other blog posts).
Overall conclusions:
-5Ghz vs. 6Ghz radios, can they cover the roughly the same areas (check below to check this out)?
-Ekahau is a great planning, and troubleshooting tool. It has a niche.
-NetAlly 3G is a great testing tool. It’s a nice handheld (lightweight) tool that’s easy to flip. Their Live-Link is an easy online tool to help share file, find rogues & illusive APs. I like feature that tests a connection from a specific AP to an Internet site, and the time for the transaction. It has great filters to find things quickly. It’s a must have tool.
